Don’t Go Breaking My Heart
Today, much like the coronavirus, love is in the air. Speaking of that homewrecker. The scourge has found a way into our bedrooms. There has been a surge of divorces and breakups due to the strain that COVID has introduced into our lives.
This Valentine’s Day you may not be feeling so lovey-dovey. OK, pandemic-breakup-boomer. You’re not alone! There are many among the quarantining who are spending the Hallmark holiday solo. Don’t weep my friends. Instead, drop an excessive amount of bread on Uber Eats, pour you a “quarantini,” and queue up this short playlist for the bitter, bereaved, and getting better.
”Caroline,” Arlo Parks
Emerging British singer-songwriter, Arlo Parks, gives our prying eyes a peek into an artsy couple’s conflict on “Caroline.” The familiarity of the chorus cuts deep. “Caroline, I swear to God I tried…” goes the refrain. I’m not crying, YOU’RE crying!
“Sideways,” Citizen Cope
Citizen Cope’s “Sideways” is a personal favorite. A song to be played with a bottle in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Although, I don’t encourage such behavior. Smoking is bad for you! So is wallowing in the longing induced by Cope’s gravelly vocals. Avoid those treacherous waters and dock your leaky love boat at the shore!
“Could’ve Been,” H.E.R. ft. Bryson Tiller
If the wound is still fresh you may be spinning yourself in circles looking for answers. Was it me? Was it them? Should I have left the toilet seat down? Could’ve, should’ve, would’ve! Let’s not do that today.
“F*CK YOU,” CeeLo Green
Okay, okay, maybe you’re not sad at all. Perhaps, you’re pissed! Did they take your money? Runoff with your best friend, or worse yet your dog!? It’s okay to rage. Just watch out for those Class A Misdemeanors.
“Self Care,” Mac Miller
The previous song was fun, but hold no grudges and do no harm friends. The ex made you better. You’re now more patient, less self-absorbed, and a better listener. No? Your last relationship was a relapse into insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different outcomes. Bad patterns can be forgiven when it comes to wallpaper, but not love. Know thyself to break the cycle! A little self-care will get you on your way.
“Good As Hell,” Lizzo
There are plenty of fish in the sea friends! Pick your chin up and get back in the game. Today, that means sitting in your underwear swiping dating apps. Whatever, just stop listening to sad love songs!
